Collecting My Little Pony
What: Luna plush
Where: kickstarter (limited run)
Price: $40
6 months ago I placed a ‘donation’ of $40 to the kickstarter that promised “moon plushies for the masses!” and they arrived today. The creator/project manager made several severe underestimates in his timeline, so it took quite awhile for these to get here, but there was never any doubt in my mind that I would indeed get them.
November the project was launched; claiming to be a “moon plush inspired by sailor moon” it was quickly funded. Hasbro contacted the creator and asked him to remove the listing, because some tshirt images were copyrighted hasbro images. Several corrections were made to the plush. A final prototype was decided, and manufacturing began. Shipping was delayed because of Chinese New Year, and then further delayed with customs held the shipment for inspection. Now they are finally arriving!
Luna is exactly what I expected; I had been following the plush updates and knew what to expect. She’s super soft, and I love her wired wings! the stuffing is a little weird in her legs, but with some rearranging should be fine.
I got 2! Not sure if I’ll keep both, or maybe….?
Pony dry spell….nothing new available for awhile now :x good for my wallet, bad for my boredom. Have some random pony photos! (my photos, also found on my flickr. no stealing pls.) So, how about a ‘what are you waiting for in the mail?’ I am expecting:
-4th dimension Twilight plush (june)
-Luna ‘moon plush’
-dollyhair
you guys care about the older generations? I haven’t been including them in my posts, only store bought-current things, but I might start including *all* pony related purchases.
Double dose of rarity today! Two new comic releases today.
Friendship is magic #6 and micro series #3. Both 3.99 each plus tax. I got them at hastings, and i also learned that hastings will no longer be carrying extra copies of the main comic! Meaning, if you want to get your pony comic fix via hastings, you have to set up a subscription. The micro series will continue to be stocked as usual…
Now a review! Its no secret that rarity is best pony, and I am loving this story arc. The mainline comic was a bit boring, but there were some really cute references, pinkie says “in space no one can hear you squea!” some good luna bits too. The micro series one was the real winner this time. It really showcased rarity’s element. Rarity helps out a struggling family. The characters are really adorable, and the plot is so good.
Both of the comics reference the show in specific ways, which was really neat. I love when things tie together.
What: comic #5
Where: Hastings
Price: $3.99 plus tax
This one starts a new story arc- about Rarity! I really liked this one, and am excited about the plotline. They’re going with the ‘face your fears’ gig and the ponies are going to the moon! The nightmare elements are really neat, and I’m glad they are giving more explanation into the whole nightmare moon thing. It’s also interesting how luna addresses nightmare moon, she says “when I was possessed by nightmare moon” and “what nightmare moon promised!” she doesn’t really acknowledge that she in fact WAS nightmare moon. I am also excited about the likely probability of Rarity becoming ‘nightmare rarity’- the fact that if a pony is taken over by darkness they become a nightmare is so cool! it’s not a new idea, but it’s awesome that the idea is being introduced to my little pony.
What: Blind bags wave 7
Where: Walmart
Price: $2.47 eac plus tax :(((
walmart finally got their shit together and had a full box of wave 7, so I got the last 5 I needed. It’s been like a month since they had any. I was starting to think there was a global shortage or something. It’s notable that they raised the price…damn. I guess I am going to have to scale back my blind bag purchases…which I probably won’t. I love best pony as a crystal pony! she does indeed look fabulous. Banana fluff has some nice colors going on and clover is boring. But I’m a completionist when a full box presents itself. so there’s that. wave 7 done.
I just pre-ordered the 4th Dimension Twilight plush ($24.95 plus $12.50 shipping)
April 1st Build a Bear is releasing pinkie pie and rainbow dash plushies
Funko is releasing 2 more hot topic pony vinyls; pinkie pie and lyra. Coming in June.
Funko is releasing 6 pony POP figures; derpy, DJ, fluttershy, twilight, pinkie, and dash. Coming in June.
Sunset Shimmer brushable should be out soon.
Next wave of blind bags.
;(
Comparison shot of the mane 6 blind bags, and their busy book figure counterparts. the blind bags have much brighter paint, and look much more ‘clean’ in comparison. However, the fluttershy mold of the busy book figures far surpasses the blind bag recolor. The busy book rarity is grey, which is mildly annoying, especially since celestia is white…I guess they wanted a slight color distinction between the princess and common ponies? Overall I prefer the blind bag ones, with the exception of fluttershy. sweetie belle is just too perfect. look at her little grin! And here’s another of spike, and his odd chipmunk cheeks.
the paint quality on these irks me so much, I keep them stored in their busy book. ><
Rainbow Dash comic!
Comic #2 of the micro series
Price: $3.99 plus tax
Where: Hastings
Bad guys! Action! Rainbow Dash being conceited! It’s all here. Dash really pushes my buttons sometimes. It seems like the dialogue is a little..odd in this one. There were several panels where I had to re-read to get what they were saying. There is some applejack scenes in this one too. Can’t have dash without aj I guess. Rarity is next month! yay!
What: My little pony My Busy book
Where: barnes and noble.com
Price: $8.98 plus tax and shipping (my total was about $14)
Obviously, the main attraction here are the figures! You get the storybook, playmat, and 12 figures. The story is about the CMC going around trying to get their cutie mark- talking to all the ponies and doing various tasks. The pictures and the story are sort of off though. Example, one page talks about them baking cupcakes but it being a horrible failure. Yet the illustration has them all gathered around some very pretty looking cupcakes licking their snouts. So that’s a little confusing…
Onto the figures! They are about the size of blind bags. They all have their own mold- look at that fluttershy! Finally she isn’t just a rainbow dash recolor. Applejack actually has freckles. I think this might be a first. The best ones are the CMC though- they have so much personality! Scootaloo looks a littler derpy from certain angles- her face is really short. However, like the book, they aren’t perfect. paint issues. paint issues everywhere. the photo with twilight, celestia, scoots, and pinkie show the worst flaws. One of pinkie’s eyes was stamped on backwards, so she has eyelashes facing the wrong way…celestia’s bangs aren’t painted and the other two have various paint smears. so close ! Spike looks ridiculous, but at least he is standing upright.
The playmat is from the wrong view. In order for it to work right with the figures, it should have been birds eye view. This is more like…a backdrop.
Was it worth the price? maybe. Depends on how picky you are with flaws because this set is far from perfect. However, for the most part the figures look really good. I love AJ, fluttershy, and the CMC. Cadence also looks really nice. shoddy paint job on all of them, but nice molds.
